The Magic of Theatre

Ref: C2224968

This course is intended for all those with an interest in or love of, the theatre, of all levels of interest, from those heavily involved, to those who just love to go to productions. We will be given an understanding of how the theatre works backstage, the people who are involved, what they do and how some of the magic is created. We will review the “geography” of a typical theatre, what does upstage, down stage mean and why; is a green room really green, do you really “break a leg”, is the iron really iron and what is a birdie? We will also look at how a show is conceived, built and produced, how “techies” do their job. We will explore some of the more famous production recently performed in the West End and some of the tricks involved. At the end of it all we will hopefully have learnt more about the theatre, its craft, the skills and the pleasure it provides.
