This is a lovely course which concentrates around the festive season. The aim of the course is to make decorations for the home, using primarily, natural materials and things you would never dream of using to make decorations, such as pasta and pegs!. we will also make quilted Xmas trees and baubles. Your family and friends will be astounded. You could also use what you make to sell at Xmas craft fairs etc.

Course aim

This course will concentrate mainly on Xmas Crafts for the home, making a variety of decorations that will enhance your home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Know how to use objects around the home to make decorations
  • Know and understand how to make Victorian Xmas Crackers
  • Know and understand how to make Door wreath using natural materials
  • Understand the principals of quilting
  • design your own Xmas Decorations

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There maybe the opportunity to hold a craft exhibition where your work will be on display.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You maybe asked to bring a glue gun if you have one, also rulers pencils etc

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • You could start helping at community projects and teach others how to make some of the items you have made on the course.
