Developing Craft Skills

Over the course of 11 weeks students can develop craft techniques using a varied selection of craft materials such as fabrics, threads, wool, paper, card, wire, beads, sequins, paint and especially recyclable materials to create craft items for the home or friends and family.

This course has been planned with Luton MIND and is therefore only available for students who access MIND Luton services.

Course aim

This a practical course where students can try a selection of craft techniques. Emphasis to develop their own personal craft skills and promote a relaxed environment to create student well-being

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate at least 2 or 3 craft techniques
  • Develop at least 1 or 2 craft skills
  • Produce 2 or more craft items
  • Reflect and discuss art work produced either verbal or written

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

You can if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits
