A course to progress from the Progressing with Computers course. This is a course to solve the jargon and conundrums we all face when trying to find our way around a computer. Learn everything from switching on to all you need to know about Social Media!

Course aim

To extend learning and skills gained in the Progressing with Computers course and to continue building the confidence of the students both individually and as a group and be able to recognise the benefits of actively using Social Media.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Students will be referred onto this course by Under 1 Roof and St Martin's Housing

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To be able to create and actively use a Facebook page and find friends.
  • To be able to setup a Twitter account, follow other users and send tweets.
  • To be able to set up a Pinterest account and be able to post images on boards.
  • To be able to take part in a blogging site and create a personal Padlet page.
  • To be able to use You Tube and find out how to link a Google account with a personal You Tube page or channel.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Some handouts will be given but a notebook and pen would be useful.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
