Wrapped in myth and legend, we have a lasting impression of Elizabeth I’s reign. This course provides an interesting insight into the political, religious, and cultural issues of the age. Topics include Elizabethan society and culture, religion and spirituality, conspiracies against the Queen, and the threat of the Spanish Armada

Course aim

The main purpose of this course is to provide an interesting insight into the political, religious, and cultural issues of the Elizabethan Age

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the main events of the Elizabethan era.
  • identify some key issues concerning government, marriage, and international relations in the reign of Elizabeth
  • identify the key religious issues of the Elizabethan period
  • evaluate the impact of Elizabeth’s reign on the history of England

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
