From Chekhov to Putin -an exploration of Russian politics and culture as the monarchy is replaced by a socialist state and the Cold War might of the USSR ends in a reduced Russia ruled once more by an autocratic leader. Novels plays , diaries and original sources will form the background to our discussions. A full reading list will be available on registration .

From Chekhov to Putin -an exploration of Russian politics and culture as the monarchy is replaced by a socialist state and the Cold War might of the USSR ends in a reduced Russia ruled once more by an autocratic leader.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand the main aims of the Russian Revolution
  • comment on the progress of communism in the USSR
  • comment on chosen literary works that reflect the progress of Russian history
  • Understand the importance of leadership in the history of Russia/USSR

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
