This is a practical art course for students to explore and experiment with acrylic, watercolour and water mixable oil paints Students will be able to discover, develop and improve their creative skills in the paint media of their choice For enthusiastic beginners it is a chance to discover new paint techniques and media and for students to rekindle and improve their artistic interests in painting

Course aim

Develop your creativity, skills and abilities through a variety of enjoyable activities and ideas Experiment and explore your visual observation and art techniques with the mediums of acrylic, watercolour and water mixable oil paints

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify at least 2 acrylic, watercolour or water mixable oil painting materials
  • Demonstrate at least 2 painting techniques using acrylic, watercolour or water mixable oil paints
  • Create at least 2 pieces of art work showing the use of either acrylic, watercolour or water mixable oil paints
  • Use a sketchbook to record exploration and experimentation of ideas
  • Reflect and discuss art work produced either verbal or written

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
