"Imperial Destiny" examines tha factors that created the British Empire, the elements and efforts that sustained it, the circumstances of its decline and the marks it has left on the world today.

Course aim

More than a third of the states that comprise the UN have at some time been part of the British Empire. This course aims to examine how a small island off the North West coast of Erope became the principal power in a owrld dominated by Europe.

- Lectures and group discussions with some background reading desirable.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
