Remarkable Women

Ref: C2224258

The course investigates the life and work of some Remarkable Women from across the world and throughout history, chosen for their contributions to various spheres of life in a male-dominated society. In many cases, the work carried out by these women was overlooked or ignored whilst the men received recognition; in other instances the work of the women had significant influence upon society as a whole, but their name and their story has been forgotten. The Remarkable Women have been loosely grouped into eight spheres of influence starting with War and including Science, Philanthropy, Politics, Mathematics and 'Women with an 'Ology' and includes such characters as Rosalind Franklin, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Gertrude Bell and Nancy Wake - to name a few. Some are well-known names, others quite obscure. The illustrated lectures will be supported with handouts, extracts from contemporary documents and online links.
