WEA Hoole Community Choir

Hoole Community Choir is a non-auditioned group open to anybody who enjoys singing and would like to develop their skills. A wide variety of musical styles will be explored and the choir enjoy performing at their own concerts and at other local events. The course takes place at Hoole Community Centre on Thursdays from 2.45pm until 4.45pm and new members are always welcome.

Course aim

This course will provide an introduction to choral singing in a variety of styles with an aim of performing at local events.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Sing songs in a variety of musical styles.
  • Sing in up to four part harmony.
  • Identify ways of improving individual and group performance, e.g.. breathing techniques, posture, expression.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • We will reflect on our performances as a group and discuss what we would like to improve further for the next performance.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a pen/pencil and water. All other materials will be provided.

Enrolment Conditions

You can enrol online if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have a valid email address
  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
