Intro to Creative Writing
Let your imagination run free! Practise writing with inspiration from given words and pictures in safe and comfortable surroundings with drama development. No experience necessary though all experience welcome.
To practise free writing for confidence and well-being. To create pieces of narrative with a view to dramatic interpretation.
Who is the course for?
What topics will this course cover
Free writing Picture, word and object stimulus Develop words from your surroundings Individual, paired, small and whole group work Creating stories to share Develop your interest, e.g. short story
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Create a piece of free writing inspired by a given stimulus Create a piece of free writing inspired by your own stimulus Write a short piece inspired by someone else's writing Create a character for drama development
How will I know I'm making progress?
Feedback will be mostly verbal. There will be opportunities for peer assessment and achievement will be recorded in SLRs and photos.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Students are invited to bring pen and paper and an item for stimulus.
