For all those students who have little or no knowledge of the workings of a modern day PC and the value that it offers for those who desire to improve their basic skills.

Course aim

To provide a brief introduction to the use of windows based operating system (OS) such as windows 10. The basic setup of a PC, how to access the internet, the basic use of Microsoft Office, and commands such as copy and paste.

Who is the course for?

Some English knowledge preferred.

What topics will this course cover

Basic layout of a PC and printer, basic trouble shooting. How to access and use the internet. Basic applications available such as paint, Microsoft Office and use.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. How to start and use a PC. 2. How to use a printer, check for ink, and change paper. 3.Correct use and setup of mouse, double click, left-right click, single click. 4. Basic intro to Paint. 5. Basic intro to Microsoft Office.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Progression will be measured via the use of initial ongoing practical assessments and worksheets. There will also be ongoing peer and group assessments over the duration of the course.

What could the course lead to?

Progression to Entry 2, more advanced use of different operating systems and different applications.
