Creative Writing Workshop

A friendly and relaxed writing group. The first half- of each session is devoted to reading the previous weeks writing Homework, the second our consists of an in-class writing exercise that leads into that weeks Homework

Course aim

To encourage Creative Writing and to introduce learners to the principles of story construction.

Who is the course for?

No experience required just an enthusiasm for Creative Writing

What topics will this course cover

1.Find and develop new fresh ideas for their pieces of Creative Writing 2.Identify the essential elements of a poem 3.Write a story that includes all the essential story elements 4.Approach their story ideas from a fresh and original angle 5.Self-edit their work more successfully 6. Understand the requirements of a successful monologue

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

How will I know I'm making progress?

Ongoing verbal feedback from the Tutor on all work read out in class.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Pens, Writing Paper.

Reading and information sources

What could the course lead to?

Submission of short stories to magazines/ Scripts to theatres. Further more advanced Creative Writing courses in and outside of the WEA.
