Pattern making is a course where learners are able to learn step by step how to take body measurements and are able to measure and cut pattern using brown paper, then label the pattern with correct body measurements. With the pattern it will make it easy for the learners to cut the material and sew their garment.
To enable the learner to make patterns using their own measurements to make well fitted garments of their choice.

What topics will this course cover
1. Health and safety when working in a group. 2 .How and where to measure in order to make a block pattern. 3. To draw a pattern using on body measurements. 4. To draw a pattern using measurements from a garment. 5. Calculate how much fabric will be required for a garment..
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1. Identify and demonstrate health and safety requirements when undertaking an activity 2. Practice taking body measurement 3. Identify and demonstrate the importance of planning for an activity 4. Practice cutting and labelling the pattern step by step.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Your tutor will assess your learning progress throughout the course and give you informal feedback. However there are no formal tests or exams.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Drawing pad, file, scissors, tape measure, rubber, roll of brown paper, pen, pencil, ruler, well fitted garment to take measurements from.
