This course will give opportunity to develop skills with reading and understanding of basic English and learners will be assed to pass ESOL E1 Reading skill.

Course aim

The learners will have been assessed at the correct level and receive ongoing assessments and feedback. All students will be expected to enter the C&G E1 Reading exam 1. Follow a short narrative on a familiar topic or experience Rt/E1/1a 2. Reidentify the letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case RW/E1//2a 3. Possess a limited possess a limited,meaningful sightvocabulary of words,signs and symbolsRW/E1/1a 4. Recognise te different purposes of texts at this level Rt/E1/2a 5. Read and recognise simple sentence structures Rs/E1/1

Who is the course for?

Learners should be able recognise letters of alphabet and wiling to develop reading skills in order to pass Entry Level 1 exam.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Make simple statements of fact (Sc/E1.4a) Listen for detail and respond, in a face-to-face situation (Lr/E1.2b) Use stress and intonation to make speech comprehensible to a sympathetic native speaker (Sc/E1.1a) Take part in social interactions (Sd/E1.1a) Student introduces a friend/family member to the library. (Community Engagement Theme) OR make something that can be donated to a local charity/or do a sponsored activity to raise money for a local charity. (Community Engagement Theme)
