Modern Foreign Languages-French Conversation, Language and Culture
This class is for competent speakers who wish to discuss various topics of current interest for example newspaper articles, their surroundings, leisure activities, French culture etc. We shall expand on your listening skills through different activities and revise grammar.
To improve the students’ confidence in speaking and understanding French but also to develop the student’s knowledge and interest in the French culture and way of life.
Who is the course for?
completion of intermediate course and fair knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary
What topics will this course cover
Grammar revision (dont, qui, que, a qui etc.), various theme to discuss and present to the class (French town, cafes, markets, gastronomy etc.), listening and reading comprehension based on the various themes, dictation, quiz.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Discuss an idea suggested by a visual stimulus. Listen effectively to identify information. Learn about French culture and being able to relate to your own. Present and voice your own opinion on various topics. To consolidate their reading ability in order to retrieve relevant information.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Practice speaking French when possible, read newspapers or magazines, listen to French radio or music etc., watch French films.
