With individual tuition and demonstration we will explore various painting and drawing techniques, using a wide range of materials to produce accomplished artwork.

Course aim

To introduce students to various painting and drawing techniques, producing accomplished artwork reflecting life and architecture in other countries.

What topics will this course cover

Pastel studies of world landscapes reflecting cultural changes. Pen and ink figurative studies, reflecting life and surroundings in other countries. Acrylic, watercolour studies, depicting life in other countries. Use of colour, composition, perspective to depict buildings and landscapes around the world, reflecting cultural differences and influences.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1 produce pen and ink figurative studies relating to theme. 2 produce acrylic and watercolour studies using techniques demonstrated to depict life and cultural influences in other countries. 3 produce pastel studies of landscapes from around the world. 4 produce images of buildings, surroundings from different countries, incorporating perspective, composition,using techniques demonstrated. 5 demonstrate use of colour to reflect different countries. Eg Iceland- cool, Brazil- warm.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Completion of individual learning records. Continuous verbal feedback on work. Results in workplace. Start, mid, end course reviews.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Art materials. Paper.

Not requiered.

What could the course lead to?

Further wea courses to develop wider skills. Exhibit work. Further research to create a greater understanding of cultures from around the world.
