Open to all levels this course provides the support and opportunity to develop and explore personal creativity. Participants will be shown a variety of techniques and have time to experiment and build confidence in using them. Themes will be suggested but participants will also be welcome to choose their own. The course will feature looking at other artists and art styles for inspiration.
Course aim
To take part in creative arts activity for personal interest, relaxation, leisure, well-being, social interaction and community engagement.
Who is the course for?
Adult members of the public from the local community in Folkestone, Hawkinge, Sandgate, Cheriton and adjacent areas in close proximity.
What topics will this course cover
Developing skills in using a variety of art materials. Experimenting with different techniques. Exploring different themes and subjects for creative activity. Discussions on a variety of relevant art themes. Making use of the art of other artists and topics for ideas and inspiration.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Explore personal creativity. Experiment with at least one art technique of choice. Identify themes and subjects to base artworks on. Take part in creative activity within a group setting. Take part in discussion with the tutor and other participants as relevant to the course.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Feedback and support will be offered throughout the course on a one-to-one and group basis.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Aprons or clothes that you do not mind getting paint or other art materials on. Materials provided but please feel free to bring your own ones too if you wish.
Reading and information sources
None required. The tutor will share any relevant reading and information sources during the course as appropriate to the group and individuals.
What could the course lead to?
Further arts participation or personal hobbies. Well-being through creative and social activity. An awareness of a variety of art in different cultures and time periods. An interest in local arts access.
