Summer Sewing Crafts (CL Pilot)

Ref: C3741744

We will practise some of the most common hand sewing stitches and work with your choice of fabric and threads to make a small item to take home and use over the summer (eg a tote bag, sunglasses case, or length of bunting to decorate your garden).

Course aim

To provide an introduction to hand sewing techniques and make a simple item with a summer theme (eg tote bag, sunglasses case or bunting) to take home.

Who is the course for?

This course is only for parents and carers of young children using Caterham Children's Centres Marden Lodge or NAAFI site). Bookings must be made via the Marden Lodge Children's Centre.

What topics will this course cover

Simple hand sewing stitches will be introduced and you will be able to make an item of your choice from a variety of fabrics and threads.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Show evidence of at least three hand sewing stitches 2. Complete or nearly complete (ie may be finished at home) a small item with a summer theme

How will I know I'm making progress?

The tutor will offer continuous constructive feedback and will answer any questions you may have.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Nothing needed, unless you have a particular project you would like help with or fabrics of your own you would like to use.
