Introduction to Collage

Each session we will look at different methods of creating collage pictures, cards, etc. We will be inspired by famous artists' collages and we will chose a topic through which students can create collages of their own. The complexity of the work will be matched to the ability of the students. This class will aim for a relaxed atmosphere in which students may socialise as they work.

Course aim

This course aims to show students the diversity and styles of collage. It will demonstrate different techniques which students will use to create their own work from a variety of topics, methods and materials.

Who is the course for?

everyone is welcome to attend this course and projects will be set according to ability.

What topics will this course cover

Collage as an art form - what is it? What do artists make from collage techniques? How can I design and make collages? Exploring diverse styles and methods to make original collages.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. understand some of the collage styles that have been used before. 2. understand how to make a collage using different materials and techniques. 3. create at least 4 collages to take home.

How will I know I'm making progress?

students will be given practical and verbal feedback each session from the Tutor. they will have peer feedback from other students and WEA classroom supporters. they will have finished projects to show their friends and families. completed works will be copied and placed on show at the Centre

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

you need to wear comfortable clothing that may get water-based glue on it. Aprons are available in class.

Any of the other WEA Art courses would be suitable Maths and English courses would help with measuring and textual collages Any course offering social links.
