Drama for LDD

We will learn how to act and make a show or film. Students will choose the topic and style of the film/show. Family and friends will be invited to a performance.

Course aim

This course will help students to learn the basic principles of Drama and work towards a short end-of-term production. The production may be a show or a film, as chosen by the majority of students.

Who is the course for?

Adults who have learning disabilities or difficulties.

What topics will this course cover

During this course you will: - choose a topic for the show and chose which character to play - help design the story, costumes and props - find out about acting your part - act or host an event for friends and family to see the show or film you have made together

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. understand and use some basic acting skills 2. take part in creating and planning a show or film 3. have more confidence to perform for friends/family 4. have more confidence to speak to people outside of the class

How will I know I'm making progress?

Your Tutor will talk to you each week about your progress. Your fellow students will be asked to talk about the class' progress. You will be doing and enjoying activities you have never done before. Your friends and family will tell you how you have progressed - before and after the show.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

nothing but yourself and a willingness to join in.

What could the course lead to?

Functional English and Maths, at the WEA or elsewhere. Drama at WEA or AmDram clubs locally.
