Art Workshops West an inspiring and creative venture in to the world of art, from beginner to the more experienced artist. Covering the basic techniques and experimenting with new materials and ideas providing a stimulating workshop for the student.

Course aim

A course for those with an interest in art, students of all abilities from beginners to the more experienced an introduction to different techniques and experimentation with art.

Who is the course for?

For everyone with an interest for art from the beginner to the experience artist,

What topics will this course cover

Basic skills drawing and painting techniques, use of colour shape and form, the use of sketch books and basic research techniques, we will also be looking at art in the world today and at the history of art hoping to inspire and motivate the student on the pathway to finding their own creativity. The Art Workshops provide a creative informal and friendly atmosphere for everyone.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Basic drawing and painting skills. 2. An understanding of composition. 3. The use of sketches, and sketch book techniques 4. An ability to choose a subject. 5. To complete at least one work of art

How will I know I'm making progress?

Individual tutor led projects, weekly tutor appraisal and critique.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Art materials are to be found but its always good to have a sketch book (minimum A4 and a selection of art pencils ) we do have a selection of materials so students can try different materials and techniques, basically any art materials of their own. Art friendly clothing is advised.

Reading and information sources

Non specified but please bring anything that you wish to share with us and foremost the art that inspires the individual : for discussion.

What could the course lead to?

I hope this course will provide an introduction to the world of art of creativity and to the individuals development as a artist.. And even to more of our study days and course here on the Island.
