An introduction to working with clay where learners can use the basic techniques, gain an understanding and the more able can develop their own ideas. Numeracy and Literacy skills are incorporated where appropriate.

Course aim

To improve skills and knowledge through personalised learning and support progress towards further independence.

Who is the course for?

This is a part time leisure course for students who require Supported learning.

What topics will this course cover

Projects involve creating pieces of work and include modelling, slab work, press moulding, surface decoration, textures and painting. In the summer term we will be working on wildlife projects.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Practise different methods of working with clay. 2. Explore different decorating techniques. 3. Apply Numeracy and Literacy to projects.

How will I know I'm making progress?

There will be reviews when progress will be discussed, noted and recorded in the Individual Learning Plan.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

A willingness to follow guidelines and comply with centre attendance and punctuality.
