Introduction to Dressmaking
Discuss pattern requirements. Cut and piece your chosen pattern to create a garment. This course is ideal if you have completed the introduction to dressmaking course or if you have previous sewing experience.

Enhance your sewing skills. This is a follow-on course from the Introduction to Dressmaking Course. Put together a garment of your choice.
Who is the course for?
Some sewing experience is required as well as a working knowledge of your sewing machine.
What topics will this course cover
This course will be led by students requirements. That said, planned topics include adjusting the pattern to fit your body. Change necklines, different seam finishings and blind hems. During the first session students are encouraged to request specific topics for inclusion during course.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Create a garment of their choice.
How will I know I'm making progress?
During every session the tutor will give you one-to-one time to discuss your progression and point you in the right direction in order for your garment to be completed to a great standard by the end of the course.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Please bring your own sewing machine. You should know how to thread, maintain and use it. You will need to bring your chosen pattern and fabric by the second session latest.
Reading and information sources
When you attend, there is a dedicated on-line 'classroom' where you can go to download extra reading and study materials, hints and tips for sewing. Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking some practice techniques covered in class and working on their own garment/piece of approx. 1 - 2 hours per week.
What could the course lead to?
Create your own clothes. Sew for charity. Take a further course to gain qualifications in dressmaking.
