Make a Movie!

Ref: C3670955

Whether you want to learn the key elements of making a film or to simply to tell a story, this workshop is for you! Looking at what makes a good short film, this course is a brief introduction about some of the key factors of filmmaking such as angles, composition, framing and dialogue. By the end of the 3 weeks, either individually or in In groups, you will have produced, directed and shot your own short film and will also get the chance to act in films created by other members of the group! The course will be run by Amy Charles, a photographer and filmmaker from Wakefield. Amy started her filmmaking journey as Senior Videographer for P&O Cruises and now co-runs West Yorkshire based film company Fly Girl Films.

Course aim

To provide an outlet for creative expression and for the group to produce a short film.

Who is the course for?

Story-telling, adapting a script, filming, camera angles, composition, framing.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Demonstrate understanding of key elements in film-making such as dialogue, camera angles, composition and lighting. Give and receive constructive criticism. Demonstrate understanding of various roles required whilst filming such as actors, directors, cinematographers and lighting-person. Demonstrate understanding of the editing stage and how this impacts on the film.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Each week we will discuss everyone's work to provide the opportunity to give and receive feedback

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

If you have a camera that has the ability to film - compact camera/phone/DSLR - bring this to the session. It is not necessary that you do, however, as you will be able to use Amy's filming equipment.
