The course will help you to tune into your body's needs. You will be encouraged to relax your body and mind and learn how to practise yoga in a gentle and nurturing way. We will be practising some classic yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques and relating these practices to our everyday lives.

To increase your flexibility, peace of mind and ability to relax through the practice of regular yoga, relaxation and meditation.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

Each week we will do a gentle yoga practice which will include a warm up and some gentle yoga postures which will be taught in a way that includes all abilities. There will be many opportunities to relax between postures and a long relaxation at the end. We will have a short period of meditation each week and an opportunity to talk about your experience over a cup of tea.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Students will be able to warm up the body in preparation for yoga. Students will be able to demonstrate 5 yoga postures. Students will be able to practise the deep yogic breath. Students will be able to meditate for five minutes. Students will be more aware of their bodies.

How will I know I'm making progress?

I will give the students handouts so they can practise at home if they wish. I will give continual individual verbal feedback and encouragement throughout the course. I will give them access to a comprehensive library of books throughout the course.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Please wear comfortable clothing.

Hopefully this course will encourage some students to carry on practising yoga either in a group or at home.
