Dance for Health and Wellbeing - Flexibility and Mobility
The course uses movement to music to help improve and maintain general health and well-being both physically and mentally - improving fitness, memory and confidence. This terms we will be focusing on mobility and flexibility - knees bent, arms stretch ra ra ra. Guidance is also given about using the routines to exercise outside of the learning environment.

Improving health in a fun and friendly way -learn new skills including a range of modern and ballroom dances. The focus is flexibility and mobility-all abilities welcome.
To use movement to music as a form of exercise to improve and maintain general health and well-being including mobility and flexibility to keep ones mind active and improve memory and confidence.

Students of all abilities who want to use dance as a way to improve health and well-being including mobility and flexibility.
What topics will this course cover
Enrollment - health and safety Seated routines Movement to music - including short, simple dance routines which have been adapted for those with a range of difficulties and disabilities. How to develop and improve ones mobility and flexibility. Evaluation of skills learnt and benefits to health and well-being
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Perform to music safely at a level appropriate to the individuals ability Perform to music simple routines, standing or seated which directly benefit ones health and well-being Recognise the 3 key elements that help to improve mobility and flexibility Demonstrate one or more of the three key elements of good mobility and flexibility. Recognise and record on ILP one benefit to health and well-being which has improved on the course.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Open group discussion Individual feedback throughout sessions as appropriate Question and Answer time at the end of sessions Tracking documents completed at the end of a session

Loose layered , comfortable clothing and good supportive footwear

What could the course lead to?
Guidance will be given throughout about how class activities can be adapted and used safely when the opportunities arise outside the sessions to maintain general health and well-being.
