This Textile Crafting course will enable students to try different techniques to create a variety of decorative items for clothing and projects. It focuses on helping individual's design, create and modify a range of textile resources and items. It includes patch working, embellishing and appliqué work with textiles and needlework to produce unique standalone projects.

Course aim

To help individuals design, create and modify a range of personal resources to produce individual clothing embellishments. This course will include such crafts as: patchwork, embellishing and appliqué work with textiles. It aims to provide opportunities for individuals to develop and enhance their needlework skills, on a variety of materials to produce unique standalone items of clothing or projects.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Identify existing craft levels - hand sewing, textile techniques, working with different materials and techniques Produce a range of embellishments which reflect your personal creativity Create a textile project which uses different designs and techniques Incorporate different recycled resources into your projects Establish ways to relax outside the classroom through skills developed during the course

How will I know I'm making progress?

Assessment will be carried out throughout each session by observation, Q and A as well as peer assessment within the group. Photographic evidence will also be gathered of students work.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Optional - Students may wish to bring materials, cottons or embellishments for activities. Or may wish to bring own scissors.
