Improve Your Microsoft Office Skills B
An ICT course designed to build confidence working with Microsoft Office Applications enabling students to work independently and within a group. Students will be able to progress to new modules and higher levels within this class with individual support.

What topics will this course cover
Create and reproduce documents combining text, graphics and art work with regard producing professional documents which could be used in the workplace Enter data with accuracy Perform Editing options with accuracy Use formatting tools to construct documents layouts Find, save & recall existing documents Use best practices when working with computers (Health & Safety) Perform print options and organise in portfolio as evidence Review work before printing (spellcheck, proof read, print preview) Increase awareness of social issues through text content of some practical exercises
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Complete practical exercises to create Microsft Office documents Enter and Edit data with accuracy Format documents layouts Print hard copies for portfolio to provide evidence of learning and progression Increase awareness of social issues through text content of some practical exercises.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Students will build their own portfolio of work. Hard copies of completed practical exercises will be printed throughout the course and the tutor will mark all work, giving students constructive written and verbal feedback. Gapped handouts & Q&A methods are also used as evidence learning is taking place. Students are able to track their own progression using the workpack, completing weekly logs and learner record sheets. At the end of a module students complete set practical assessment exercises independently these cover all the criteria for the course again evidencing learning is taking place.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
You will need to provide your own A4 folder to keep all course paperwork and a pen. The workpacks and other course materials will be provided by your tutor.

What could the course lead to?
Many students completing this course have gained employment by building confidence working within a group as well as learning new skills using the computer. The WEA run many courses and have contact with other educational providers. Please ask your tutor for information regarding progression or any further learning needs.
