This term we are looking at colour in water based painting media. The subject can be of your own choice and you are encouraged to source your own reference material (books, photographs etc) Demonstrations will include a variety of acrylic and watercolour techniques on landscape and portrait subject matter.

Course aim

To gain skills, confidence and techniques in drawing and painting in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Who is the course for?

Basic colour mixing skills Use of restricted and complimentary colour palettes Recognise and use emotional and symbolic colour within your work

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Gain confidence using acrylic or watercolour media Begin to develop my own style Use expressive colour Use monochrome, complementary and restricted colour palettes

How will I know I'm making progress?

You will have one-to-one support from the tutor, group demonstrations, a half term and end of term report. Feedback is given constantly throughout each session and questions and discussion is actively encouraged.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

You will need to wear an old shirt to protect your clothes. Set of acrylic or watercolour paints, brushes, palette and water pot Painting surfaces- paper/card/canvas/sketch book Reference images of your own choice

What could the course lead to?

The course continues in September covering the use of different media and more advanced techniques and subject areas. The tutor will give out information on local exhibitions and workshops which may be of interest to the students.
