A number of different drawing and painting techniques are examined and demonstrated in relation to the figure, to equip the learner with the skills to develop their own personal response to the life room nude.

Course aim

To gain skills and techniques working with the figure

Who is the course for?

Beginners and Intermediate learners with an interest in observational drawing

What topics will this course cover

Different ways of drawing using for example, negative space, flow lines, internal shapes Techniques for water based painting media including direct brush work, complimentary colour, accurate skin tone mixing. Male and female models work in rotation This course contains full frontal nudity

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Have gained skills and confidence portraying the figure Increase observational drawing accuracy Work towards developing your own style Experimented with new techniques

How will I know I'm making progress?

You will have one-to-one support from the tutor, group demonstrations, a half term and end of term report. Feedback is given constantly throughout each session and questions and discussion is actively encouraged.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

You will need to wear an old shirt to protect your clothes. Set of acrylic or watercolour paints, brushes, palette and water pot Painting surfaces- paper/card/canvas/sketch book

What could the course lead to?

The course continues in September covering the use of different media and more advanced techniques and subject areas. The tutor will give out information on local exhibitions and workshops which may be of interest to the students.
