Eleven weeks of healthy recipes and information on health and well-being, including preparing meals on a budget, how the food we eat effects the way we feel and how to make healthy choices.

Course aim

To show students how healthy, nutritious meals can be made on a budget, so that they feel confident to cook them at home.

What topics will this course cover

The course will cover all aspects of eating and making healthy meals on a budget, including: The Eatwell plate Food labeling Salts Sugars Diet and exercise Students will be encouraged to suggest meals that they'd like to learn how to cook. Information about how diet effects our health and well-being and the benefits of different types of food will also be covered.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Demonstrate greater confidence in cooking healthy meals Plan and cook at home at least 3 meals whilst working towards a budget Identify alternative healthy ingredients for at least 1 recipe Explain how at least 2 food types effect our mood and well-being

How will I know I'm making progress?

Ongoing assessment of the student's through out the course, with the help and support from the tutor's

Handouts with information about the topics covered together with copies of recepies

Progress onto educational courses or voluntary/employment.
