In this course we will use words and images to prompt an emotional response, and explore with our own interpretations in word and images, finding how we travel emotionally in our responses, and how we then express this summation in art and literature.

This course is aimed at adults who experience stress, depression and other mental health difficulties. It will combine art work with creative writing.

Course aim

This course aims to bring together images that speak to us of emotions, looking at words that trigger images and affect us.

Who is the course for?

Any level of attainment, this course should be accesssable to all, an interest is the key. The course is particularly targeted at adults who experience stress, depression and other mental health difficulties.

What topics will this course cover

Images and words, our individual responses and where it takes us, emotionally spiritually and viscerally.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Create two pieces of writing Describe personal responses to certain words Create two pieces of art work. Describe personal responses to certain images Demonstrate improved skill confidence in relating words to pictures.

How will I know I'm making progress?

We will have several group discussions and students will receive individual feedback from the tutor.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

As ever the ever increasing library we hold will contribute to the course material. If individuals would like to bring other materials with them to inspire art work or writing please bring them with you.

What could the course lead to?

Taking part in further WEA Creative Art and Creative Writing courses. Taking part in other related activities which promote health and wellbeing- tutor will advise. Practising learned skills at home
