For people who are interested in holistic treatments. You will be introduced to a number of essential oils and carrier oils and will have the chance to produce your own oil to take home. You will learn how to perform a basic hand and arm massage, as well as useful information to help you further develop this area of interest.
Course aim
To introduce the practice of aromatherapy as an alternative treatment. To gain knowledge and understanding of the benefits, contraindications and safety precautions in the use of aromatherapy.

What topics will this course cover
Each week will be divided into a theory section and a practical session to allow you to learn and practice the massage. Elements covered are: The history of essential oils The production of essential oils The benefits and contraindications of essential and carrier oils Storage and safety Aftercare advice
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Have an increased level of understanding of aromatherapy Identify the benefits of seven essential oils Produce an aromatherapy blended oil for personal use Perform a hand and arm massage
How will I know I'm making progress?
Learning progress will be achieved through questions, answers discussion, and demonstration. I will observe practical elements and offer feedback where necessary.
