Be ready for your next trip to France and learn some relevant conversational French through a number of varied ,fun activities, discussions and role-plays. The sessions are led by a friendly native speaker in a relaxed setting.

This course is suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their knowledge. Lots of guidance and support will be given from a native French speaking tutor.

Course aim

The course aims to teach and support students to enable them to become more confident using practical conversational French and it introduces them to some of the social issues and trends that are changing French society.

Who is the course for?

The course is pitched at beginners plus level and is taught in English.

What topics will this course cover

The course aims to equip students to take part in a conversation about the changing family, themselves and others in the community. Students will practise getting local information and arranging an activity, They will practise making telephone and face to face enquiries for accommodation, whilst shopping for clothes, shoes and bags, choosing a meal and compare and express their opinions.;this will include asking their way and following directions. Audio media will be used to enable learners to understand French spoken with a variety of regional accents and those of people from other French speaking countries.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Understand and respond orally to a conversation about home, holiday plans and leisure activities 2. Carry out a number of commercial transactions in French 3. Make simple enquiries 4. Find your way when travelling in France by asking and understanding directions 5.Buy,complain, and negotiate when shopping

How will I know I'm making progress?

Informal feedback will be provided throughout the course. Completion of individual learning plans.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Students may find it useful to have a small phrasebook or dictionary, a notebook and pen to record important points and a sleeve to hold their handouts.
