Castaway Dance Performance
Awaken your imagination! Come and explore the possibilities of combining dance and film. Get hands on experience of filming dance as well as making and performing dance with others. Finally we'll showcase our work at Junction, theatre in a piece combining live dance and projected film.
A fun, creative dance performance group open to all levels. Exploring the creative possibilities of dance and film and working towards a performance at Junction Goole in July.
Who is the course for?
What topics will this course cover
Filming dance - hands on experience of 'physical' camera techniques, choosing locations and storyboarding dance films. Case studies - exploring the work of other dance film artists (including Wim Vandekeybus) Choreographing dance for film - creating solos, duets and whole group material. Expanding your movement range and body awareness Working as a team to create and perform dances
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Demonstrate increased movement range and body awareness Demonstrate camera work skills and understanding of the particular approaches to filming dance Demonstrate ensemble working - working as a team to create and perform Perform in a dance film work showcased at Junction Goole Theatre
How will I know I'm making progress?
Tutor feedback and group feedback will be shared throughout the course. Watching your own filmed work back and the work of others, you'll reflect and share back your thoughts with the group.

What could the course lead to?
Following an introduction to the work of dance film artists and from performing at the local theatre Junction Goole, learners may be inspired to seek out other opportunities to see and take part in dance film - the tutor will be highlighting upcoming events and performances taking place during the Hull City of Culture 2017. Learners who are interested in pursuing advanced training will also be signposted by the tutor to other opportunities including applying to join Engine Room Theatre Company whose work has a strong movement and film base.
