A step by step and demonstrated approach to a variety of subjects covering different methods and techniques to be used. Advice and information on drawing, colour mixing and wash control.
To improve on methods and techniques used and to diversify and experiment with new and upcoming styles and approaches. To become more confident with washes and brush control.
Who is the course for?
What topics will this course cover
A series of watercolour paintings, with advice on drawing, planning and composition. A step by step approach will allow students to used a staged process of building up a painting with advice on colour mixing, brush strokes and wash control.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Paint variegated and graded washes. Create a composition from a provided photograph. Use wet in wet techniques to create lost and found edges. Create form and texture with the use of contour drawing. Mix a variety of colours to be used in a landscape painting.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Individual discussion, progress reports, constructive critique, group assessment.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
2B pencil, eraser, rule. Watercolour paints, brushes, palette and watercolour paper, water container.
Reading and information sources
No but appropriate reference books, dvd's etc. will always prove useful as will practise when time allows.
What could the course lead to?
Most students who wish to progress join future courses which are ongoing to the next stage. Painting at home will help to keep students familiar with technique.
