A safe and effective gentle exercise course focusing on health and functional fitness. Each week will contain a top to toe warm up, strength exercises with resistance bands or exercise equipment, cool down including stretching and relaxation. Alternatives and adaptions will be offered to ensure everyone can participate. An enjoyable class in a friendly environment.
A fun and enjoyable gentle exercise course suitable for all. Exercises to increase fitness levels and improve health and wellbeing, through improving balance co-ordination, strength and reducing stress.
Who is the course for?
What topics will this course cover
10 week gentle exercise course; each week will contain a top to toe warm up which will be gradually made more difficult throughout the course. New aerobic steps and/or routines will be introduced to keep students interested and to increase intensity of work out. A variety of music used to go with theme of routine country, salsa, etc. Each week will also contain strength and balance exercises with either resistance bands or exercise equipment. Progression will be by increasing reps or time spent. Different areas of the body will be targeted depending on what the tutor and students feel is required. Relaxation methods will be taught so students can correctly perform relaxation both in class and at home, to teach methods of stress relief. Alternatives and adaptions will be offered throughout all classes as and when necessary to ensure everyone can participate, students encouraged to work at their own level. Health and fitness related issues arising during course will be discussed and research as required. Assessment will be through observation, Q&A and discussion.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Feel the physical benefits of regularly participating in gentle exercise. Recognise and describe any improvements in their health and functional fitness (such as improvements to balance, co-ordination, etc.) Recognise the need and benefits to all of being physically active throughout life and how this changes due to age, circumstances, health etc. Share and discuss their experiences of taking part in physical activity, what they have enjoyed and why, how participating has impacted on them and their health.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Verbal feedback will be given during and at the end of every session. Written feedback will be given at the end of the course.

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for exercising. Contact tutor if necessary for more details.

No pre-reading or preparation; any activity or health issues arising during sessions or in the news whilst course is running will be discussed and relevant websites, articles, etc will be made available to students.
