Sew for craft or dressmaking with supported guidance. Beginners will be supported and taken through easy steps to enable strong skills in measuring cutting and sewing a practice piece. Those more confident will be able to build on their existing skills in either craft or dressmaking to create a toile (sample) and then finished item. Each persons' needs will be discussed prior to the course to ensure patterns and materials are available for use for the prototype/sample trial.

What topics will this course cover
Measuring accurately, fabric cutting, tacking, altering the fit and pattern to ensure final product is accurate. Craft skills to create high quality products of your choice using remnant fabrics eg for display toys, bags, aprons etc. Each person will work according to their needs supported by the teacher. Some patterns and basic fabrics will be supplied to enable students to have a go.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Basic sewing equipment to include small and large scissors, pins, thread, needles, tape measure. Sewing machine with different feet as required. Vision glasses if used.There will be a selection of resources available to use.
