Tai Chi and Health Qigong are gentle but effective forms of exercise that can enhance general health and wellbeing. The smooth and slow movements energise the body without placing undue strain on joints or muscles, improving focus, balance and posture.

Course aim

An introduction to the movements of Yang style Tai Chi and Health Qigong forms which promote health and wellbeing and to gain an understanding of the movements through practice.

Who is the course for?

Anyone wishing to learn or improve practice of Tai Chi and Health Qigong.

What topics will this course cover

Safe Warm Up and Cool Down Yang 8 Tai Chi form Ba Duan Jin and Daoyin 12 Health Qigong forms Relaxation techniques

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1 Correctly identify and demonstrate the three Tai Chi stances 2 Demonstrate coordination of arms and legs when performing routines 3 Demonstrate an awareness of some Tai Chi principles 4 Perform Health Qigong routines using correct postures

How will I know I'm making progress?

Tutor observation and feedback, student feedback Individual Learning Plan at start and end of course Health questionnaires Practice in small groups Tutor available before and after the class to discuss any concerns in private

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Loose comfortable clothing that you can move in easily Comfortable flat shoes You may wish to bring a drink with you

Reading and information sources

No but if anyone wishes to develop their knowledge and understanding, then a selection of books relating to Tai Chi is available on Amazon YouTube - British Health Qigong Association have videos of the routines and Deyin Tai Chi videos of Yang 8 British Health Qigong Federation have stills of the Qigong routines on their website Instructional DVDs are available to purchase as well as music CDs

What could the course lead to?

Workshops and seminars are held throughout the year for anyone wishing to attend.
