This course will help you develop your skills and confidence in the use of email, internet search and Word and Excel.

Enrolment is via Reception Office, Carlton Centre, Carlton Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UA, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Tel: 01934 426442. All students must register with Carlton Centre. No session on 03/06/2016.

Course aim

To support students to develop/review knowledge and skills in using computers to get ready for further learning and work.

Who is the course for?

This is a targeted course aimed at students who are registered with the Carlton Centre.

What topics will this course cover

Email Internet Search Microsoft Word (wordprocessing) level 1 and level 2 Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets) level 1 and level 2

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Use email competently 2. Use internet safely and competently 3. Open and manipulate a variety of Word documents 4. Open and manipulate a variety of spreadsheets

How will I know I'm making progress?

Through completion of Student Learning Record, question & answer sessions, and mock tests.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Pens, notebook, USB if want to work from home/library

What could the course lead to?

More advanced course (e.g. with WEA, Community Learning , local FE college) or ICT qualification through BCS (British Computer Society).
