Cornish Railway Explorers
This fascinating day out offers WEA students the opportunity to visit a number of sites of historical interest with reference to railway history in Cornwall.

Meeting Place: Illogan Highway, Pool - further details upon enrolment. This is an outdoor visit and therefore students need to dress according to the weather forecast, good walking shoes or boots. Bring a folding chair or shooting stick (if required). Camera, Notebook and pen/pencil.
To visit and study remains of early railways in Cornwall.
Who is the course for?
What topics will this course cover
The course will include visits to relevant sites such as the inclines at Portreath and Redruth, the harbour at Devoran, remains at Carharrack and the line of the old railway at Hayle.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1. To be aware of the physical remains of early railways and their location. 2. To have some understanding of the technology and engineering involved in railway development 3. To see how railways linked in to Cornish mining industry and its history.

A packed lunch and walking clothes would be advisable

No but a booklist will be provided for further reference and understanding
