Students will have the opportunity to draw and paint and undertake a piece of 3d artwork. Some textile and glass painting also.

Additional information about this course

Enrolment on all courses is via Reception Office, Carlton Centre, Carlton Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UA, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Tel: 01934 426442. All students must register with Carlton Centre. Students will be invited to contribute on a voluntary basis towards the cost of materials.

Course aim

To give students the opportunity to try arts and crafts based projects in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Who is the course for?

Only a willingness to attend and try new techniques. This is a targeted course for students who are registered with the Carlton Centre. For further information please contact Phil Lyons on 0117 9166511.

What topics will this course cover

Drawing and painting, using clay/modroc, some textile and glass painting.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Produce a drawing or painting. 2. Use clay and associated tools. 3. Use ceramic paints. 4. Use paints for textiles. 5. Reflect on own achievements and have an opportunity to display their work.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Observation and photo evidencing,self assessment (using learner journals). You will be encouraged to plan your work at each stage and you will be supported to do this by breaking down a main task into smaller more manageable ones, e.g transferring an image and colour mixing or exploring a new painting technique.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Variety of media and art resources provided.

None required.

What could the course lead to?

Possible progression onto Painting and Drawing (and other media) course or a course at Weston college.
