Dressmaking: The Next Steps
This course will take you through the next steps in techniques of dressmaking including embellishing and adding those special touches to make your own individualised outfit. You will also go through the techniques of pattern cutting and making a simple pattern block.
This course will take you through advanced techniques of dressmaking and basic pattern cutting including making a basic pattern block from scratch.

What topics will this course cover
Following commercial dressmaking patterns and adjust to fit Taking accurate measurements Using a tailors dummy Producing a basic pattern block Pressing Completing a perfectly fitting outfit
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1. Produce a perfectly fitting outfit of your choice 2. Produce a simple pattern block
How will I know I'm making progress?
Verbal feedback and informal discussion within the group. Peer assessment
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
A Sewing Machine Dressmaking and small snipping Scissors Threads Pins Needles. Unpicker Tape measure Tailors chalk. Fabric and pattern. (to be discussed at first session ) A note book and pencil for taking down notes and recording ideas.
Reading and information sources
No preparation is required. Sewing books and magazines will be available at each of the sessions.

To continue making clothes for either pleasure of profit.
