Improvers Mixed Media Art Classes

An improvers’ art course for learners who would like to develop their skills and creativity in order to achieve self development, and build a portfolio of work to exhibit. Learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ while developing your own style.

Course aim

This course will enable learners to develop their drawing, painting and mixed media skills and build creative thinking. At the end of the course learners will have a portfolio of visual experiments which will aspire to a professional standard.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

This course will cover advanced drawing and painting in: charcoal, pastels, watercolour, acrylic and collage. Learners will be encouraged to develop their own style and may work towards abstraction

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Improve their drawing skills with observational and imaginative tasks 2. Improve their painting skills including brushwork and colour mixing 3. Improve their use of mixed media 4. Improve their creative thinking and personal idea development

How will I know I'm making progress?

Verbal feedback will be given during the class session. There will be group critiques in a friendly supportive atmosphere

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

A3 cartridge paper, pastel paper, watercolour paper, canvas/ canvas board, pencils, pastels, watercolours, acrylics and brushes.

Reading and information sources

Learners should keep up with current art exhibitions in public and private galleries

What could the course lead to?

Learners may wish to progress to higher education art courses. Learners may wish to construct a website to promote their art.
