This course is designed to improve health and fitness levels through the provision of bespoke physical activity and health information sessions tailored to individual needs and goals.

What topics will this course cover

Health and fitness assessment Correct breathing, strength, endurance, confidence in physical training Managing Long Term Conditions. Trying different types of healthy alternative food and drink; reflecting on the benefits to help our well being

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Name different3 type of healthy food alternatives 2. Reflect on the impact of alcohol consumption 3. Use different measuring tools for appropriate portion sizes and compare the old Eat Well plate with the new one 4. Perform new exercises to help with mobility and strength

How will I know I'm making progress?

The tutor will ask learners to complete assessment exercises and informal feedback will be given on progress. There are no formal tests and exams.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Medication (inhalers/sprays). List of medication for induction. Suitable clothing such as sports pants/trousers/t-shirt/top. Trainers or closed-toe shoes. Plastic bottle containing water.

Reading and information sources

No previous knowledge required, just enthusiasm and motivation and a desire to develop skills and health knowledge. The course caters for all abilities.

WEA course same level different/broader subject. Non WEA course same level different subject. Volunteering to promote healthier communities. Accessing Local Health Services. Applying health knowledge gained into everyday life.
