A friendly and supportive creative writing class, suitable for all, with exercises and ideas that will inspire you to write and develop your skills.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

We will look at a different aspect of creative writing each week, including: - Getting inspired/setting writing goals - Creating characters - Short stories - Poetry - Writing inspired by music - Editing and proof reading

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Plan writing by noting and developing initial ideas. 2. Discuss understanding of stories, poems and other materials. 3. Respond to prompts and ideas to produce original writing. 4. Give and receive feedback on writing. 5. Edit and proof read writing for meaning and accuracy.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Students will set individual goals at the beginning of the course. We will check progress on these - and the course learning outcomes - throughout the course. The tutor will also provide verbal feedback weekly after each exercise.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Pen and paper.

None. The tutor will provide information during the course according to the topic.

What could the course lead to?

The tutor will provide information about learning and publication opportunities during the course.
