Gentle Chair Exercise -Sit and be Fit

Exercise can be fun and can help increase your mobility levels - and - can be performed seated - so ideal for anyone using a wheelchair. Holistic principles allows us to explore health enhancing techniques with complimentary therapies and stress relief exercises - bringing us a feeling of well being.

Course aim

The purpose of the course is to help individual learners to understand and remember the exercises performed - allowing them to continue with the benefits at home - also, to enable the learners to learn and perform stress relief exercises and bring about a feeling of well being by exploring complimentary therapies.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

Mobility exercises - seated exercises for the upper and lower body. Complimentary therapies - the benefits. Stress relief - health enhancing techniques. Relaxation and meditation - all the above are techniques designed to bring about a feeling of health and well being. Health discussions - social interaction to promote community engagement

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Demonstrate the mobility exercises that have been practiced and remembered Discuss topics relating to health and well being with confidence. Practice the relaxation and meditation exercises to help with stress relief

How will I know I'm making progress?

Verbal feedback including one to one assessments and the use of the ILP forms - conversations with individual learners as well as collective discussions with the group.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Comfortable clothing should be worn - all resources provided by the tutor.

No reading preparation required

What could the course lead to?

To continue with the techniques they have learned outside the classroom - this will help the learners further develop their physical and emotional well being.
