Performing Arts at Daybreak

The dance and drama course is designed to encourage participation in exploring a variety of dance styles and drama techniques, improving confidence and health and wellbeing. Students will work towards producing, performing and staging a dance and drama production to a live audience.

Course aim

This course aims to develop an appreciation of movement and communication through the exploration of a variety of dance and drama forms. Acquiring knowledge of creative dance and drama whilst engaging in the dynamic heritage of dance and drama forms. This will also enhance knowledge of health and wellbeing through exercise.

Students must attend Daybreak centre

What topics will this course cover

Dance ,movement, drama techniques, communication Improvisation, scripted work, health and wellbeing.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Identify with at least 2 dance movements 2. Interpret and communicate a character role 3. Perform a musical to a live audience

How will I know I'm making progress?

The students will be encouraged to review progress with me as the tutor and as a group through peer assessment. The learners will demonstrate learning by performing to an invited audience receiving futher feedback from family, friends and the wider community. Formal feedback via the individual learning plan.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Suitable clothing should be worn that does not restrict movement. Comfortable footware e.g trainers

Reading and information sources

All reading material and scripts will be provided by tutor.

What could the course lead to?

Futher courses with WEA and/or other service providers. Join local community groups interested in performing arts.
