Health and Wellbeing: Mindfulness Meditation
This course is based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn.You'll learn how to focus your awareness, cultivate calmness and develop non-judgmental acceptance through a range of meditation practices. The course can help you to manage stress and live life more fully.

Who is the course for?
Beginners. No previous knowledge required.
What topics will this course cover
The nature of mindfulness meditation using a variety of formal and informal practices. The relevance of mindfulness work to stress. Developing awareness of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. How to develop loving presence for ourselves and others. Reviewing home practice and setting up a practice programme.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Understand the nature of mindfulness meditation using a variety of formal and informal practices. Identify the relevance of mindfulness work to stress. Identify personal habits of mind and understand how these might help or hinder you.. Have a greater acceptance of your life experiences. Incorporate meditation practices into your daily life.
How will I know I'm making progress?
By following tutor led meditations. By taking part in experiential exercises and sharing group feedback. Reviewing your experiences during the course. A self-reflective journal for home practice.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Loose, comfortable clothing. A yoga mat, if you wish to lie on the floor.
